Coal-fired power plants and preterm birth in North Carolina (2003-2015)
This dataset contains information from the US EPA Air Markets Program Data (now updated to the Clean Air Markets Program Data) concerning sulfur dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants in North Carolina from 2002 to 2015. It includes a linked analysis of birth records to study the associations between sulfur dioxide reduction and preterm birth, details published in a 2023 Environmental Epidemiology article. While the emissions data is publicly available, the birth records contain personal information and can only be accessed through formal requests and with IRB approval, due to privacy restrictions.
